As you would expect, our 2013 Tempranillo is one large wine. The color is intense black, showing a nice concentration. The nose is earthy, leathery, some spicy note of pepper. The month-feel is rich and soft with a finish of black cherry. The wine is very elegant and will pair with a lot winter dishes.
The 2013 had 16% more rainfall than that of 2012. It had a dry spring, no frost after bud break, and average crop load. The summer was warm with cool mornings and during the second week of August a heat spike was recorded then the temperature average 80 F which allow the fruit to mature slowly with a full ripeness and firm acid levels. The fruit was harvested on September 13.
The grapes were gently de-stemmed, cold macerated and fermented in a one-ton bin. They were punched down over the course of fermentation to extract as much fruit as possible. The wine was then pressed into barrels for malolactic fermentation and aged 26 months in French oak.
