2013 Petite Sirah
Our 2013 Petite Sirah is one large wine with a deep purple color, an indicator of the underlying depth and concentration. The palate is rich with round tannins and a blackberry finish. While it is powerful, there is still a sense of elegance. This wine will pair well with roasted or barbecued meat dishes and vegetable stews.
The 2013 vintage had 16% more rainfall than that of 2012. We had a dry spring with no frost after bud break and average crop load. The summer was warm with cool mornings. During the second week of August and beginning of September we experienced a heat spike which is normal for California. The rest of the season was cooler. We harvested our Petite Sirah on October 18th.
The grapes were gently de-stemmed, cold macerated and fermented in a one-ton bin. They were punched down over the course of fermentation to extract as much fruit as possible. The wine was then pressed into barrels for malolactic fermentation and aged 26 months in French oak.
